Jamie Stock, Founder at Konsidered

Navigating the entrepreneurial waters, Jamie Stock, Founder of Konsidered, candidly shares his experiences, challenges, and the ebb and flow of his mental well-being. Driven by the allure of freedom and the desire to build something impactful, Jamie’s journey showcases the dichotomy of the founder’s life – the exhilarating highs and the pressing lows.

What inspired you to become a founder?
The freedom to control my life and to build something great.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed as a founder? If so, can you describe a time?
When I lost some of my initial clients I went straight into panic mode. “What ifs” engulfed my thinking and it made basic decisions feel twice as heavy.

How do you recognize when you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed?
That Sunday feeling kicked in hard, and I felt burnt out. I needed a break but struggled to know when or how. The business needed me at all times.

How has your mental well-being impacted your business or decision-making?
Feeling burnt out made it hard to focus, which meant my productivity dropped. I started prioritizing work/life balance, took the pressure off, and began valuing my freedom more.

How do you perceive the challenges and rewards of being a founder?
The struggles and difficulties of being a founder are both negative and positive. It’s easier mentally to have a boss, but you learn more as a founder. The key is to discern between moments that are lessons and those that are truly negative.

Who supports you during challenging times?
My wife. I don’t have much of a founder network. Stoicism also helps to put things into perspective.

What strategies have you adopted to maintain your well-being?
Must have a cut-off point, mine’s no work after 8pm. Get into nature, actively disconnect, and always evaluate happiness in ways of working.

How do you balance your professional and personal life?
I try to be as organized with my social life as my business. I go out 2-3 times a week and see exercise and nature as key.

Any advice for fellow founders regarding managing well-being or stress?
Get into nature, proper nature, as often as possible.
